| yj4x4 Premium Member 2002-Dec-15 12:53 am Adelphia have S-video or composite video out??Does Adelphia have any digital boxes with either a S-video, or composite video output? I switched from DirecTV to Adelphia because it was cheaper than paying for both satellite and DSL, but was shocked at how poor the quality of the "digital" picture was compared to DirecTV on my big screen TV. I notice Adelphia's box has spot for S-video, but the hole still has the punch out blocking it. |

Paradoxish | Paradoxish Member 2002-Dec-15 12:55 am I have s-video out and coax digital out for sound on my Scientific Atlanta box. I've previously had DirecTV as well and I've found that while the local, non-digital channels aren't much better than normal cable most of the digital channels are as good as or better than the quality I was seeing on DirecTV. You might want to contact your local office about the s-video out port on your receiver. |

The Hughes boxes I got have S-Video, Digital out and TruSurround built in. "You might want to contact your local office about the s-video out port on your receiver." Good luck on that one. I contacted my office for months on end, and the tech said he kept putting in orders for S-Video enabled boxes, only to have the order cancelled or lost. I think the bankruptcy also has put purchases on the back burner. I got tired of it, and gave up. With Directv, S-Video is on all their boxes, no matter the brand. I remember reading in another thread on this forum that they have to do some kind of upgrade on the local cable system to be able to support it. I love my Powerlink, and their crew is top notch, but their cable side needs some serious help. I get ten times more channels and better quality and the Powerlink for less than I was paying Adelphia for less channels and lower quality. |

keo eke | keo eke Premium Member 2002-Dec-15 1:23 am I don't think the S-video has anything to do with Adelphia other than having the option installed on the box( which I guess is kinda important) but my digital box has had the S-video out and digital audio out since I got it three years ago. The manufacture puts that in the box has nothing to do with the cable system. |

| RR Conductor Premium Member 2002-Dec-15 1:56 am I think it does, or there wouldn't be boxes of the same brand and model(ie.Motorola) with S Video and boxes without it. |

keo eke | keo eke Premium Member 2002-Dec-15 12:18 pm It is just an option Adelphia orders they could order boxes with hard drives and active ethernet ports if they wanted. The S-video is like the RCA jacks just another output option you can utilize. The BYPASS feature does not work on my box but it is not due to the system not being upgraded for it just that Adelphia didn't order that feature from Scientific Atlanta. |

Netgear R7000 | RR Conductor Premium Member 2002-Dec-15 1:00 pm Why not give customers the options of S Video and Digital Out? You can't tell me it costs that much more to offer at least S Video on their boxes. Instead, they seem to give the customers one choice, and a take it or leave it attitude. Powerlink is awesome, but their cable division seems to be stuck in 1985. |

| RR Conductor Premium Member 2002-Dec-15 8:10 pm I don't know. In 1985, cable had just gone live in our neighborhood in West Covina, So Cal. Falcon was the name of the cable company. |

Really? That's strange. We're getting around 290 (something like that not including music and pay-per-view channels, although I don't know the exact number) channels - about the same amount we were getting with DirecTV except cable has been cheaper. Hmm... |

| cbyrd to yj4x4 Member 2002-Dec-15 9:13 pm With the level of compression Adelphia (or the source of it's feed)uses, you would notice absolutely no difference between composite and S-video outputs. I've had both direcTV and cable, and direcTV blows Adelphia away as far as picture quality goes. |

True, but I SHOULD notice a heck of a difference between the plain old vanilla video out and s-video or composite, which is what I'm after. I may end up just getting DirecTV again, and cancelling the cable.(but keep powerlink!) |

| RR Conductor to Paradoxish Premium Member 2002-Dec-16 12:45 am Unlike satellite, Adelphia's offerings and quality varies greatly from franchise to franchise. Powerlink works great, Digital Cable, not too hot. |

Hickerx2 | Hickerx2 to yj4x4 Member 2002-Dec-16 10:21 am Same experience here. DirecTV's picture quality is quite noticably better than Adelphia's digital picture. Since they are advertising local channels here, I may just be looking into the cost difference myself again |
