Job overview

We have an exciting opportunity within the Bronte Unit Scarborough Hospital/Lawrence Unit Bridlington Hospital for a Senior Healthcare Support Worker (Band 3) at 22.5 hours per week.

The Bronte/Lawrence Units provide nurse led outpatient services to patients requiring a variety of treatments, and/or tests including Blood transfusions, Platelet transfusion, Venesections, all intravenous therapies including antibiotics, immunoglobulin, bisphosphonates, biological therapy, Steroids, iron infusions and blood tests to diagnose Endocrinology conditions.

The successful post holder will work as part of the multi-disciplinary team to provide a professional and pro-active service. The post holder will as a Senior Healthcare support worker, to administer a high level of patient care such as Venepuncture, Cannulation, Venesection as well as recording patient observations, collecting blood products from the pathology department, acting as second checker as per Trust policy and collecting medications from the pharmacy to support the units as required.

The base for the post will be the Bronte Unit at Scarborough Hospital, but cross site cover for holidays and sickness is expected as part of the role.

The departments opening hours are Monday-Friday 08.30-16.30. The hours being advertised are 22.5 hours per week.

DBS Checks

Please be aware that all newemployees starting work with us will be charged for the cost of their DBS check if it is required for the role. The cost will be deducted fromyour salaryeither in 1 payment or over a six month period once you start employment. Education, Qualifications and Training

Essential criteria
  • Successful completion of The Care Certificate (UK)
Desirable criteria
  • Level 3 qualification or equivalent (Health and Social Care qualification preferred) or working towards
  • Level 2 maths and English (GCSE A-C or equivalent) or Functional skills level 2

Experience

Essential criteria
  • 3 years previous healthcare assistant experience

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Ability to communicate health related information in an understandable way to patients and colleagues, adapting communication style to meet the needs of the recipient.
  • Basic Understanding of health and safety requirements in a patient environment
Desirable criteria
  • Ability to undertake cannulation in a safe and confident manner.
