247Sports released its 2024 Big Ten transfer portal class net rankings on Saturday.
The ranking, unlike the 247Sports composite, factors in both incoming and departing transfers. The rating of each team’s departing players is subtracted from the overall incoming class to find a net rating.

The new rankings are a piece of an overall puzzle used to calculate the quality of each team’s offseason. More context is often needed with the transfer classes, as a program like Wisconsin lost only backups and Paul Chryst-era players, while a program like Washington was in need of a top-down overhaul after many top contributors followed head coach Kalen DeBoer to Alabama.
I’d almost divide the transfer classes into groups: programs with a new coach (Washington, Michigan, Indiana, Michigan State, UCLA), programs still transitioning under a second-year coach (Wisconsin, Nebraska, Purdue, Northwestern) and everybody else (Ohio State, Iowa, Oregon, Illinois, Penn State, Minnesota, Rutgers, USC, Maryland).
Regardless of the context, no Big Ten team could top Ohio State’s star-studded offseason haul that included former Kansas State QB Will Howard, Alabama S Caleb Downs and Ole Miss RB Quinshon Judkins.
Wisconsin’s haul was impressive. The Badgers landed an experienced quarterback in Tyler Van Dyke, two starting-caliber outside linebackers, two starting-caliber inside linebackers, more help at wide receiver, a promising running back talent, critical help at defensive line and more.
Here’s where Wisconsin’s 16-man transfer class ranked among 247Sports’ Big Ten 2024 transfer class net rankings:
